Pukatawagan RCMP have re-arrested Kelly Castel, who ran off wearing handcuffs on Sept. 16 while being transferred into custody of Manitoba sheriffs for a flight to attend a Winnipeg court date.

Pukatawagan RCMP have located and re-arrested a prisoner who ran off into the woods, they announced Sept. 22.

Kelly Castel, 19, escaped on Sept .16 while being taken to the airport for a flight to Winnipeg.

Police were handing the man over to Manitoba sheriffs for a Winnipeg court appearance for robbery and failing to comply with probation when he ran into the forest still wearing handcuffs. Officers pursued the prisoner but did not find him in the area.

This is the second time in just over a month that a handcuffed prisoner has escaped custody in Northern Manitoba. In early August, a prisoner got away from Lynn Lake RCMP while being led out the detachment for transport to Leaf Rapids. He turned himself in two days later still wearing the handcuffs he was in when he ran off.
