Police charge 17-year-old in Grand Rapids homicide

Arrest was made Sept. 19, three days after a 16-year-old male with serious injuries was taken to the community’s nursing station, where he was pronounced dead.

A 17-year-old male from Grand Rapids was arrested and charged Sept. 19 for the Sept. 16 death of a 16-year-old male from the community.

A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the death of a 16-year-old in Grand Rapids.

RCMP Major Crime Services, who were in the community to lead the investigation, arrested and charged the male suspect from Grand Rapids on Sept. 19.

Three days earlier, around 8 p.m. Sept. 16, Grand Rapids RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive male with serious injuries at a residence in the community. He was transported to the nursing station, where he was pronounced dead.

RCMP police dog services and the forensic identification section also assisted the investigation.

The 17-year-old was remanded into custody pending a court appearance in The Pas scheduled for Sept. 20.
