Police and firefighters rescue woman from river in Thompson

RCMP and fire department launched boats to aid the 17-year-old, who is believed to have been in the water for about 15 minutes and was struggling to stay afloat.

A 17-year-old woman was pulled from the Burntwood River by Thompson RCMP and Thompson Fire & Emergency Services Oct. 26.

Police and firefighters rescued a 17-year-old woman from the Burntwood River in Thompson Oct. 26, RCMP say.

Thompson RCMP were notified around 6:30 p.m. that day that there was a person in distress in the river on the north edge of Thompson, near the Miles Hart Bridge. Responding officers heard the woman in the water and launched boats along with Thompson Fire & Emergency Services firefighter-paramedics. They found and rescued the woman, who was struggling to remain afloat. Police believe she was in the water for about 15 minutes.

The teen was taken to shore and then transported to Thompson General Hospital for treatment.
