Odour shuts down bank branch

Thompson's CIBC branch shut down on the afternoon of June 1 after several employees were sickened by a foul smell.

"A number of staff in CIBC's Thompson branch were affected by an odour yesterday that occurred when a cash deposit that had been made at our ABM was opened for processing," explained Rob McLeod, senior director of communications and public affairs with CIBC. "The six staff affected were sent to hospital and were subsequently cleared to return to their homes."

Thompson fire and emergency services personnel attended the scene and determined that the branch was clear and could be reopened for business the following day.

"Both the examining doctor and the fire department believe the odour was the result of mace," said McLeod.
