A 46-year-old man received more than $1,200 in fines and had his licence suspended and vehicle towed when he was pulled over by Thompson RCMP for having expired registration Dec. 11.
The traffic stop occurred just before 11 p.m. and the officers who pulled him over reported a strong smell of marijuana smoke when they approached the vehicle. Police say the driver tried to blame the smell on his passengers before admitting that he had smoked marijuana “an hour or two” before driving.
The man was fined $672 for not having insurance, $298 for driving an unregistered vehicle and $298 for not having a valid safety inspection decal. His vehicle was towed and impounded for 15 days and he received a 15-day tiered administrative driving suspension.
