Man drowns near cabin in South Indian Lake

Victim appears to have slipped on mud and fallen into small pond and was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Indian Lake RCMP responded to a drowning Sept. 11. A 46-year-old man from Winnipeg appears to have slipped on mud outside a remote cabin, fallen into a small pond and drowned, police say.

A 46-year-old man from Winnipeg drowned near a remote cabin in South Indian Lake on the morning of Sept. 11.

South Indian Lake RCMP received a report of a drowning just before 11 a.m. Saturday and attended a remote cabin along Provincial Road 493 in O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation. They located a man in a small pond near the cabin and removed him from the water but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigation determined that the man slipped in the mud on the banks of the pond and fell into the water.

Police continue to investigate.
