Cross Lake RCMP responded to a Feb. 12 fire in Pimicikamak Cree Nation and found three bodies in the home after the blaze was put out.

Three people died in a house fire in Pimicikamak Cree Nation in the early morning hours of Feb. 12.

Four other people, including a child, who were in the house at the time of the fire escaped though a window and were treated for various injuries.

Cross Lake RCMP responded to the fire just before 5 a.m. Saturday but could not enter the home because it was fully engulfed by flames.

First Nation Safety Officers who arrived at the scene first had also tried to get in through a window but were turned back by the heat.

After the Cross Lake Fire Department extinguished the blaze, officers went inside and found three bodies. An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm their identities.

Police continue to investigate the fire with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, which attended the community to assist the investigation.
