Braden McMurdo, who won the Oct. 13 byelection to fill the spot left vacant on council by the late Judy Kolada, was sworn in by provincial court judge Todd Rambow prior to the Oct. 19 council meeting at City Hall. McMurdo took a seat between councillors Earl Colbourne and Brian Lundmark after reciting and signing the oath of office.
“We congratulate you on your successful election and welcome you aboard,” Mayor Colleen Smook said in her mayor’s report at the conclusion of the meting. “The first meeting’s under your belt.”
“It’s an honour to join mayor and council in these chambers and I look forward to working productively with each of you in the next two years,” said McMurdo.
The mayor said she believed Kolada would have been pleased that five people ran in the byelection to replace her as she thanked the other four candidates for putting their names forward.
“I think [Kolada] would have been happy to see a young person replace her,” said Smook.
