A letter to parents from Principal Ryan Land was sent home from R.D. Parker Collegiate with students yesterday warning of a possible threat for today - Friday, Nov. 27 - after a message was found written in one of the washrooms.

RCMP are investigating and the school says it will be open today.

In the letter, addressed to parents and guardians, Land writes: "The purpose of this letter is to inform you that there has been some writing in one of the washrooms at R.D. Parker that has caused some concern pertaining to the school on Friday, Nov. 27. The incident has been taken seriously and steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the staff and students at R.D. Parker. I apologize for the non-specific nature of the information with regards to this situation, but this is necessary as the incident is under police investigation. The RCMP will be present in the building throughout the day. I ask that any questions you may have pertaining to this incident be directed to Hugh Fraser, superintendent of the School District of Mystery Lake."

A statement from "R.A. (Rob) Collen, Cpl., acting operations NCO, Thompson RCMP detachment," is appended in a different type font to the bottom of Land's letter, with the principal saying, "The following statement has been released by the RCMP." Collen writes, "This is to advise of a general threat to the R.D. Parker Collegiate, received in writing on a bathroom wall in the school on Nov. 26. The threat is related to the date of Nov. 27.

"This threat is being investigated by the Thompson RCMP, and the exact nature of the threat is not being released for this reason. The credibility and validity of the threat cannot be confirmed, and it is questionable in nature. For this reason, in consultation with the Mystery Lake School Division and R.D. Parker Collegiate, classes will resume normally on Nov. 27. The Thompson RCMP have regardless committed to have a presence at the R.D. Parker Collegiate on Nov. 27. as a safety precaution."
