Attempted murder charge laid for July 13 assault

Suspect also faces aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm charges.

A Thompson man faces attempted murder and assault charges for a pair of July 13 attacks near Churchill Drive.

An 18-year-old Thompson resident who was arrested following a July 13 assault faces attempted murder and assault charges.

Thompson RCMP responded to an assault report in an alley behind Churchill Drive shortly after midnight that day and arrived to find a man violently attacking a woman. A second male victim was also located at the scene.

The perpetrator fled when the police arrived but was apprehended and arrested after a short foot chase.

Investigation determined that the suspect had assaulted a 37-year-old man and than a 44-year-old woman. Both victims had severe injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Jamie Captain is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault while choking and two counts of resisting a peace officer, with further charges pending and was remanded into custody.

RCMP said in a July 18 news release that they were seeking further information or witnesses to the assaults.
