Two Paint Lake anglers were recently fined for not following fishing regulations.

A pair of Paint Lake anglers reeled in more than $800 in fines between them when conservation officers caught them breaking the rules on April 17.

The officers were conducting compliance checks when they found two people with five lines in the water between them, one more than the two per person allowed during ice fishing season. Inspections revealed that many of the hooks were barbed, which is not allowed in Manitoba.

Fines totalling $206 were levied for having too many lines in the water and using barbed hooks and each angler was also fined $298 for fishing without a licence.
