The School District of Mystery Lake Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8 bands performed in concert alongside the R.D. Parker Collegiate Grade 9 band at a year-end concert June 13.

The Grade 8 and Grade 9 bands also performed two songs together to close out the show and their band teacher Stevie McPherson recognized Danica Ryan, Emma Fitzpatrick, Abi Deibert and Nicole Cruda for being selected to the provincial junior honour band, while Madyson Caldwell was recognized for being a participant at the provincial intermediate band.

Grade 6 and Grade 7 band instructor Natalie Pegus presented certificates of achievement to Grade 7 band members Muna Awouda, Niyati Chanana, Harsh Chawla, Jyee Choi, Cole Jacobs, Austin Reid and Eddie Vystrcil for participating in the Norman/Parkland Regional Honour Band in Dauphin this year.

“I didn’t give any certificates to my Grade 6 band, because I find it too challenging to just pick a few students,” Pegus said. “The Grade 6 band did perform a world première called ‘Dawn of the First Day’ by a local composer [Natalie’s sister Michelle Pegus]. That was a pretty rare and unique experience for them.”
