The Thompson Writers’ Guild (TWG) launched its second book – Cold Hands, Warm Hearts, an exploration of the theme of love – at the Thompson Public Library March 3.
“This one took us a few years,” said TWG president and contributor to the anthology Chesa Hickey.
“What did come from this, we feel anyways, is a total exploration on the topic of love,” said TWG secretary Robyn Foley, who also contributed her writing for the book. “Not jut your romantic not just your erotic but do you choose family or friends, what happens when love is taken away from you, what happens if love is never there? So when we stop to consider all the different ways that we experience or we miss love, that’s what you’ll find here.”
Foley read a portion of her contribution, a story about a time-travelling family that spends much of their time accumulating wealth.
“It comes with a sacrifice because in your first life you’re allowed to get married, you’re allowed to go to school, you’re allowed to do all these things that you want to do with the idea the second life is an obligation to the growing empire of the family,” Foley explained before her reading. “Our main character has to make a choice because now it’s her time to go back and she doesn’t want to. She has a husband, a couple of kids, that sort of thing, so what would you do, which choice would you make?”
Producing the book is not for profit but for the love of writing, said TWG member Angela Wolfe.
“These authors have worked amazingly hard to get this out to you,” she said.
