Aaron Johnson as a young John Lennon in Liverpool in Nowhere Boy.

It's double feature monthly movie Saturday night again Jan. 29 for the Reel North Film Festival at 7 p.m. in the Basement Bijou Room of the Thompson Public Library with The Class and Nowhere Boy.

The Class, which is French with English subtitles, is a 128-minute movie about modern French identity and the attempt to transform junior high school students into citizens. Unlike the celebration of ethnic diversity one finds in Canada, African, Arab and Asian students in France live in a country that strives for its citizens have only one cultural identity - although the rioting in Paris' rings of suburbs in recent years have suggested many young people in France don't feel they share that identify.

You can catch a trailer for the movie at: http://www.theclassmovie.co.uk/

The second 98-minute film, Nowhere Boy, based on a biography written by John Lennon's half-sister, Julia Baird, is a reference to his song "Nowhere Man." on the 1965 album Rubber Soul, tells the story of John Lennon's youth, the creation of his first band, The Quarrymen, and its evolution into The Beatles.A trailer for Nowhere Boy can be found at: http://www.nowhereboy.co.uk/

The Saturday night double features debuted on March 8, 2008 so film buffs wouldn't have to wait an entire year until the following November and the next full three-day festival to see festival genre films.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Old Dutch barbecue potato chips, water, coffee and Oreo cookies are usually available.
