Thompson holds Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Canada

A walk featuring local Special Olympians, their supporters, and local police officers and firefighter marked the occasion, capped off with a barbecue.

Thompson played host to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Canada on June 10.

Local Special Olympians, their supporters and members of Thompson RCMP and Thompson Fire & Emergency Services carried a banner and a torch from the Thompson Regional Community Centre north entrance around UCN Drive and then had a barbecue to mark the occasion.

Started in Wichita, Kansas in 1981, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness and fundraising event for Special Olympics globally. The run is supported by the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs and has raised more than $72 million in Canada since its inception.
