21 new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba’s north Sept. 29

It is the highest daily increase in case numbers in the region in just over a month.

The provincial government reported the highest number of new daily COVID-19 cases for Northern Manitoba in a month Sept. 29, announcing 21 new positive tests for the virus among residents of the region.

The province’s COVID-19 website says there are 108 active cases of COVID in the north, but the health district by health district breakdown on the website shows 99 – 25 in the Norway House district, 24 in the Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb district, 22 in The Pas/Opaskwayak/Kelsey health district, 16 in the Island Lake district and 12 in the Cross Lake/Pimicikamak district.

Provincewide, 114 new cases of COVID-19 were added to the provincial total Sept. 29. 77 of those cases are in unvaccinated people, 29 are in fully vaccinated people and eight are in partially vaccinated people. 63 per cent of active COVID cases in the province are in unvaccinated people, 26 per cent are in fully vaccinated people and 10 per cent are in partially vaccinated people.

There are 86 Manitobans in hospital due to the virus, 20 of them in intensive care. Nine of those patients in total, including two of those in intensive care, are northern residents.

71 per cent of hospital patients with active cases of COVID are unvaccinated, while 21 per cent are fully vaccinated and eight are partially vaccinated. 86 per cent of patients with active infections in intensive care are unvaccinated and 14 per cent are partially vaccinated. There were no fully vaccinated patients with active COVID infections in intensive care in Manitoba on Sept. 29.

1,211 Manitobans have died as a result of COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began.
