Classically-trained Vancouver harpist Janelle Nadeau at Letkemann April 13

Classically-trained Vancouver harpist Janelle Nadeau will perform at R.D. Parker Collegiate's Letkemann Theatre at 8 p.m. April 13 in the final instalment of the City of Thompson Concert Series for 2011-2012.

Tickets are $25 and available at the Recreation, Parks and Culture Department temporary office at the Norplex Pool complex or at the door.

Nadeau, bilingual in English and French with small-town farming roots, plays both pedal and lever harp, allowing her to showcase both her classical and Celtic repertoires, with classical usually played on a pedal harp and Celtic on the smaller lever harp.

Her musical genres range from Celtic, to Spanish, original tunes, to popular songs and beyond. Nadeau trained under Grammy-nominated performer and writer Deborah Henson-Conant, along with harpists Richard Turner, Heidi Krutzen, Rita Costanzi and harp maker Sixto Corbalan, during a visit to Paraguay where she had a harp made for her.

Nadeau has studied voice with such teachers as Phyllis Thompson, Joanne Mercier and Patricia Dahlquist.

She has performed and toured with multiple award-winning groups, ensembles and orchestras that include Kanye West, Winter Harp, Trio Lotos, Celebrity Cruises, Home Routes and Manitoba Arts Network.

Nadeau graduated from the University of British Columbia majoring in harp performance. In 2008, she was the first place winner, and in 2006, second place winner of the Winnipeg Women's Musical Club competition.
