A recent visit to Flin Flon by Chinese mining executives provided information on Hudbay mineral processing.
According to Scott Brubacher, Hudbay director of corporate communications, the delegation was from a company that runs mine operations in mainland China. The group came to Flin Flon in early September and visited Hudbay facilities in and around Flin Flon, touring the facility with metallurgical staff members.
“[They were] from a Chinese company that uses the same technology as Hudbay uses in processing at the zinc plant,” said Brubacher.
In the past two decades, foreign-based companies have frequently visited mining facilities in and around Flin Flon. Unlike forays from Brazil-based Vale or South Africa and U.K.-based Anglo American in previous years, no discussions about financial partnership or purchase took place.
“It’s usual in the mining industry to host visits like this,” said Brubacher.
