All three of R.D. Parker Collegiate’s doubles teams competing at the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association badminton provincials in Brandon May 3-5 advanced to the playoff round but none made it quite far enough to claim a medal.
The boys’ doubles team of Murphy Krentz and David King was the most successful, defeating Stephane Boulley and Remi Fournier 21-11, 21-14 in the playoff round and then knocking off Nicolas Dizengremel and Alexandre Poudrier 21-12, 21-16 before falling 22-20, 13-21, 15-21 to eventual silver medallists Ayush Jain and Ramon Joura in the semifinals to set up a bronze-medal match against Justin Levesque and Ethan Lindsay, who took the match 21-15, 21-11 to leave the Trojans duo in fourth.
In the girls’ doubles, Kerri Allard and Ashley Williams lost 21-18, 18-21, 17-21 to Charisma Ferland and Tammy Mitchell in their first playoff match before beating Deveren Klepka and Emily Woods 21-13, 21-19 in their first consolation side match. They then beat Ally McCutcheon and Maddi McCutcheon 21-19, 21-15 to advance to the consolation final, where they fell 16-21, 21-23 to Janessa Castillo and Jina Chaengpaseutsak.
RDPC’s mixed doubles team of Josh Smud and Samantha Palaniuk lost 11-21, 7-21 to Levi Gunnik and Brandi Bergsma in their first playoff match and 13-21, 14-21 to Gurveer San and Gabrielle Legaspi in their second. They finished the tournament with losses of 11-21, 21-15, 7-21 to Rhyz Abella and Donna Macam and 9-21, 15-21 to Kael Stuart and Tayah Vanstone.
