Skate Thompson skating season ends with success

Twelve skaters from Skate Thompson attended Stony on Ice Rockin the Rink, March 23-26.

Twelve skaters from Skate Thompson attended Stony on Ice Rockin the Rink, March 23-26.

Sydney Power, Jenna Shier, Bridgette Caddy, Ava White, Jessica Smud, Charly Boychuk and Elizabeth Phillips were all first-time competitors in their respected STAR Skate Free Skate Programs and Element Events. Other skaters that competed were Jade Brooks, Kaitlyn Krentz , Ava Rose, Regan Dunn and Jaclynn Lundrigan. Sydney Power placed fifth in STAR 6 Free Skate, fifth in Open elements event and gold in Creative Improv. Jenna Shier placed third in STAR 5 U/13 Free Skate, second in STAR 5 elements and silver in Creative Improv. Bridgette Caddy placed first in the STAR 5 U/10 Free Skate, second in STAR 5 elements and silver for Creative Improv. Ava White placed second in STAR 5 U/10 Free Skate, fourth in STAR 5 elements and gold in Creative Improv. Jessica Smud placed second in the STAR 4 U/13 Free Skate, third in STAR 4 elements, first in Bronze Interpretive Program and received a bronze for Creative Improv. Elizabeth Phillips placed sixth in STAR 4 U/10 Free Skate, fifth in STAR 4 Elements and silver in Creative Improv. Charly Boychuk placed fourth in STAR 4 U/10 Free Skate, third in STAR 4 U/10 Elements and gold in Creative Improv. Jade Brooks placed fourth in STAR 4 U/13 Free Skate and fifth in STAR 4 U/13 Elements. Kaitlyn Krentz placed fifth in STAR 4 U/13 Free Skate and fifth in STAR 4 Elements. Ava Rose received bronze in STAR 2 FreeSkate, STAR 2 Elements and Creative Improv 1. Regan Dunn received a bronze in STAR 2 FreeSkate, merit in STAR 2 Elements and silver in Creative Improv 1.Jaclynn Lundrigan captured silver in the CANSkate 6 Element event Jaclynn amazed the judges with his glides, crosscuts, turns, jumps and spins. This event is geared towards skaters in the CANSkate program. It is a great chance for the skaters to showcase their new skills in a fun and interactive environment. After each skater performs the element, the referee will call an assessment of gold, silver, bronze or merit according to the criteria for CANSkate standards. Skaters will receive a report card and a ribbon. Awesome skating, Jaclynn!

Skate Thompson concluded its skating season with a test day. Megan Szabo passed her Gold Skills and Gold Interpretive. Amy Shier passed her Tango, Killian and Senior Silver FreeSkate Part A. Emily Penney passed her Rocker Foxtrot, Senior Bronze Freeskate part B and Silver Interpretive. Taylor Chartrand passed her 14 step and 10 fox. Hailey Fudge passed her 10 fox. Jenna Shier passed her 10 fox. Jessica Smud passed her Bronze Interpretive. A huge thank you to our wonderful dance partners Shanleigh and Amy. Thank you to our evaluator Sarah Isleifson and our volunteers Angela, Heather, Dean, Marie, Brenda and Jenna. Thank you to the rink staff for the amazing ice we have. A special thank you to Sydney for the flowers and to our coaches Sue and Agnes thank you for a great year!

Apologies go out to Jessica Smud as she was left out in the article competing at the 2018 Norman STARSkate Regionals in Flin Flon. Jessica competed in STARSkate 3 FreeSkate, Elements and debuted her new Bronze Interpretive program, “Entering the Dark Side.” Jessica received her personal best score for this program. Congratulations!
