Skate Thompson caps off season with success

Fifteen skaters from Skate Thompson competed at Stony on Ice in Stony Mountain March 24-26. Skaters achieved certificates, ribbons, medals and skated personal bests in all skating events.

Fifteen skaters from Skate Thompson competed at Stony on Ice in Stony Mountain March 24-26. Skaters achieved certificates, ribbons, medals and skated personal bests in all skating events. 

Marlene Kilpatrick competed in the adult introductory free skate event. Marlene dazzled the audience with her jumps, spirals and spins. Marlene had such great artistry! 

Amy Shier skated to a second-place finish in STAR 6 free skate, placed first in STAR 7 short program, competed in STAR 7-8 elements and spins, placed first in Creative Improv 4 and  in her silver interpretive program with the theme “The Unexpected Happens.”

Megan Wischnewski achieved fifth place in the STAR 6 free skate, skated a personal best performance in STAR 6 elements and got third place in the spins event. 

Emily Penney placed eight in STAR 6 free skate, competed in STAR 6 elements and placed fourth in Silver Interpretive with the theme ”Waking up Christmas Morning.” 

Avery Lagimodiere, Jenna Shier, Sydney Power, Ava White and Bridgette Caddy – first-time competitors in the STAR 4 free skate event – had personal best skates! In the STAR 4 free skate 10-and-under Flight A Bridgette Caddy placed second, Sydney Power placed third with Ava White placed fourth. Jenna Shier placed second in the 10-and-under Flight B STAR 4 free skate event. Avery Lagimodiere placed first in the 13-and-under STAR 4 free skate event. Avery, Jenna, Sydney, Ava and Bridgette competed in STAR 4 elements, spins and Creative Improv, receiving ribbons and certificates. Avery Lagimodiere, Ava White and Sydney Power competed in STAR 4 team events. 

Jessica Smud and Summyr Fudge competed STAR 3 free skate event, both for the first time. Jessica achieved a bronze ribbon and Summyr achieved a silver ribbon. Hailey Fudge, Sara Phillips and Elizabeth Phillips competed in STAR 3 free skate event. Hailey and Elizabeth achieved a bronze ribbon and Sara achieved a silver ribbon. Hailey, Jessica, Summyr, Sara and Elizabeth competed in STAR 3 elements, spins and Creative Improv, with all skaters receiving ribbons and certificates. Hailey and Jessica competed in Introductory Interpretive. Hailey’s theme was “Lost in the Forest” which received a silver ribbon and Jessica’s interpretive ”Auditioning for the Circus” achieved a gold ribbon. 

Levi White captured gold in the CANSkate 6 element event Levi amazed the judges with his glides, crosscuts, turns, jumps and spins. This event is geared towards skaters in the CANSkate program. It is a great chance for the skaters to showcase their new skills in a fun and interactive environment. After each skater performs the element, the referee will call an assessment of gold, silver, bronze or merit according to the criteria for CANSkate standards. Skaters will receive a report card and a ribbon. Awesome skating, Levi!

Skate Thompson had their final spring test day April 8 at the C. A. Nesbitt Arena. Skaters tested in gold, junior silver, junior bronze and preliminary free skate tests. Interpretive program bronze, silver and gold were taken as well as preliminary skills and junior silver skills tests with many dance tests from the gold level to the preliminary level. Dances tested were Westminster, Viennese Waltz, Killian, Starlight Waltz, 14 Step, 10 Fox, Fiesta Tango, Swing, Baby Blues, Canasta Tango and Dutch Waltz. Sydney Power and Avery Lagimodiere passed preliminary free skate Part B test and junior bronze free skate test. Avery passed Canasta Tango and both Sydney and Avery passed Baby Blues completing preliminary dances.  Kaitlyn Krentz passed her preliminary free skate Part B test. Summyr Fudge passed her Dutch Waltz dance test and preliminary free skate Part B. Jessica Smud passed Swing Dance and preliminary free skate Part B tests. Arianna Vokey and Jade Brooks passed preliminary free skate tests. Jenna Shier passed her preliminary skills and swing dance. Hailey Fudge passed her preliminary free skate test, Fiesta Tango, preliminary skills and bronze interpretive. Emily Penney passed her bronze interpretive test. Amy Shier passed her silver interpretive test. Kassia Wolanski McGirr passed her gold interpretive test. Megan Szabo passed her gold free skate test, Killian and Starlight Dance test. Thank you to the evaluator Miles Johnston, Dance partner Shanleigh Sutherland Anderlik, arena staff, coaches and the Volunteers.
