Saunders and Lambert third in women’s doubles at world racquetball championships

Former Thompsonite Jennifer Saunders and her partner Frédérique Lambert lost 8-15, 7-15 to Aimee Ruiz and Janel Tisinger of the United States in the women’s doubles semifinals at the world racquetball championships in Cali, Colombia to wind up third overall.

Ruiz and Tisinger went on to win the world championship in women’s doubles.

Saunders and Lambert advanced to the semifinals by defeating the 11th seeded Argentinian team of Pia Dati and Marie José Vargas 15-7, 15-9 in the quarterfinals.

The Canadian women’s duo received a bye to the quarterfinals after winning both of their round-robin matches, beating Adriana Riveros and Jenny Daza of Bolivia 15-11, 15-3 and Cristina Amaya and Carolina Gomez of Colombia 15-3, 15-7.

Canada finished fourth in overall points at the championships, behind Mexico, the United States and Bolivia. They were also fourth in both the women’s and men’s combined points standings.
