Junior girls' basketball team opens season with tournament title in The Pas

R.D. Parker Collegiate's junior girls' basketball team picked up their first title in their first tournament of the season Jan. 26-27 in The Pas, beating the Creighton Kodiaks 66-12 in their final game to finish with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Trojans began the tournament with a 45-32 win over the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate Wolverines from Opaskwayak Cree Nation Jan. 26, which put them into the A pool with the other Friday night winners for the second day of the tournament. Their first A pool win came in a 64-41 defeat of Swan River's Grade 9 team.

The Trojans boys' team captured the B pool championship with a pair of wins on Saturday, defeating Ebb & Flow 62-59 and the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Educational Resource Centre Huskies from Norway House 78-23. RDPC was relegated to the B pool with a 68-64 loss to Oscar Lathlin Collegiate in their first game of the tournament Jan. 26.

RPPC's senior basketball teams remained in the top five of the Manitoba Hydro power rankings for AAA schools Jan. 25 – the girls remaining third, where they were in the initial rankings Jan. 18, and the boys moving up from fifth to fourth.

Both senior teams and the junior team will be in action again this weekend.
