Dylan Roberts, a Grade 11 student at R.D. Parker Collegiate, placed second during the Skills Manitoba competition earlier this month.

Dylan Roberts, a Grade 11 student in Thompson, travelled to Red River College April 9 to take part in Skills Manitoba. The competition sees students take part in different challenges designed to test the different skills required in trades. “I took apart a motor and I worked on it, and put it back together and then came in second,” explained Roberts.

This is the second year in a row Roberts has come out of the competition with a medal for second place. Next year, he’s hoping to secure first place and make his way to nationals.

The 17-year-old plans to have a career in the trades. “I’d like to get my ticket in small motors, and then go back to school and get heavy duty.”
