To the Editor:

This is an open letter to Wally Daudrich, Conservative candidate for Churchill Riding regarding the Vale smelter and refinery closure. Here are several questions for you to ponder. I would appreciate a response that is brief and concise:

The Federal Conservative government recently gave a $1 billion dollar loan to Vale. Why did your Conservative government not intervene when Vale announced closure of smelter and refinery in Thompson?

Don't you think such a huge loan of taxpayer's money should be conditional on "no job loss"?

Why did your Conservative government give approval to Vale, a Brazilian company, for development of a potash mine in Saskatchewan (at Thompson's expense) when they just disallowed an Australian/Chinese company takeover of an existing mine, citing the reason as "foreign ownership not in the best interest of Saskatchewan and Canada"?

Why did your federal Conservative government not apply the same reasoning when Vale took over Inco three years ago? This "foreign ownership" has proven to not be in the best interest of Thompson or Manitoba.

What is your obsession with our young, capable, outspoken NDP MP Niki Ashton?

You seem to spend a lot of energy writing letters about her. May I suggest you re-direct that energy into making the above inquiries to your Conservative government?
