Despite contending with an advanced timetable, the organizers behind this year’s Winterfest were able to confirm some high profile events that will be taking place Feb. 2–4 in or around the Thompson Regional Community Centre.

According to lead organizer Darlene Dick, a recreational co-ordinator for the City of Thompson, Winterfest 2018 will start out with a traditional bonfire and opening ceremonies on Friday evening, where the Meridian Hotel will be supplying bannock for anyone who shows up.

Saturday will feature a collection of different performances, including the Diamond Disc Dogs trick show in the morning, hypnotist Jesse Lewis in the afternoon, and a fireworks display in the evening.

Sunday’s festivities will start out with a free pancake breakfast and transition into local entertainment until everything wraps up at noon.

Winterfest 2018 will also feature various activities throughout all three days like a snow maze, which has been moved to the football field behind R.D. Parker Collegiate to make room for the upcoming Manitoba Winter Games.

Since the organizing committee has a lot on their plate for the next couple weeks, they are still looking for volunteers, and will be meeting at the Mary Fenske boardroom Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. if anybody would like to attend.

The city also confirmed during Monday’s finance and administration committee meeting that they will be providing free public transit during the second day of Winterfest.
