R.D. Parker Collegiate’s senior volleyball teams both came back from an Oct. 28-29 pre-zone tournament in Norway House as champions.
The girls’ team won one match outright and split three others for a 5-3 set record in the round robin, which left them ranked second and earned them a semifinals berth. They then knocked off the Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute Spartans from The Pas 25-13, 25-23 to move on to the final, where they defeated Hapnot Collegiate Institute from Flin Flon in three sets, rebounding from a 17-25 setback in the first set with a 25-21 victory to stay alive and a 15-13 tiebreaker win for the tournament championship.
The boys’ team followed a similar path, though they won three matches and split the other in the round robin for a 7-1 set record and first place overall. The Trojans then got past the Otter Nelson River School Nikiks from Cross Lake 25-10, 26-24 in the semifinals before edging out Hapnot 25-23, 30-28 to take the tournament title.
