Todd Rambow, who spent the last decade as a Crown prosecutor in The Pas, has been appointed as a provincial court judge in Thompson, Justice Minister Heather Stefanson announced Dec. 8.

A 1993 graduate of the University of Manitoba law school, Rambow was a law clerk with the Federal Court of Canada and an associate lawyer with private firms in British Columbia before practising for three years in Swan River and then becoming a Crown prosecutor in The Pas in 2006.

“Judge Rambow has made Manitoba’s north his home for nearly a decade and this experience, combined with his legal expertise, make him well-suited to serve the justice system in Thompson now and into the future,” said Stefanson in a press release. “His experiences in criminal defence, family law and most recently as a Crown attorney will help inform his decisions on matters that are important to all Manitobans.”

Rambow is an avid hunter, fisher and camper and has coached and volunteered with minor hockey, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse teams in The Pas.

Rambow was selected from a list of candidates by a committee that included three community representatives as well as members of the Law Society of Manitoba and the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Bar Association, along with a provincial court judge. Chief Judge Margaret Wiebe chaired the judicial nominating committee.

Rambow’s appointment is effective immediately.
