LTE-Advanced wireless service now available in Thompson, says Rogers

Cell phone service provider Rogers Communications announced Oct. 23 that customers in several communities, including Thompson, Flin Flon and Churchill, now have access to LTE-Advanced service.

LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), which is also available in Winnipeg, Brandon, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Steinbach, Gimli, Morden and Winkler, is network technology that combines two or more bands of spectrum into a larger pipe or superhighway for data to travel on, which results in a more consistent mobile data experience for users.

"We have a long and proud history in Manitoba of bringing our customers continued network improvements that help them connect to what matters most to them," said Rogers prairies regional leader Colin Bartlett in a press release. "With LTE-A, they can connect with even more of what they love, whether it's watching the Jets on Rogers NHL Live, using maps to get to a fall community supper or staying in touch with friends and family on social media."

Rogers says it has also turned on additional spectrum in Manitoba to provide better coverage in places like basements, elevators and buildings with thick concrete walls. The LTE coverage area has also been expanded to allow HD-quality voice services when using devices enabled with VoLTE, the latest voice technology.
