Hayley McDonald wins Thompson’s Got Vocal Talent contest

The last 24 hours of this year’s Nickel Days festival featured the Thompson’s Got Vocal Talent show at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena, where the winner of the competition got to walk away with a cash prize of $500.

Sunday’s contest featured nine competitors of various singing styles and a panel of judges comprising of local music teachers Kevin Lewis, Katie-Anne Papizzo and Stevie MacPherson.

In the end, Hayley McDonald walked away with the top prize after singing “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town in the preliminary round and “Broken Wing” by Martina McBride in the finals.

The rest of the top five finalists included: Kerri McGillivary, Michael Belfour, Katherine Fisher and Alayna Spence.
