Chiefs beat Wild twice in Shoal Lake

The Norman Wild started off the 2016-17 Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League season with a pair of losses on the road on the first weekend of October, falling 7-3 and 4-0 to the Yellowhead Chiefs in Shoal Lake.

The Wild trailed by a goal after 40 minutes on Oct. 1, getting outscored 3-2 in the middle frame after a scoreless first period. The Chiefs got four more goals in the third period versus a single tally for the Wild.

The Wild’s scorers in the game were Rachel O’Toole, Megan Quesnel and Carrigan Umpherville, while the Chiefs got two goals each from McKiya Mazur and Sadie Wood and singles from Tatum Amy, Rylee Gluska and Cassidy Lyttle. Marley Quesnel made 37 saves in the Wild’s net as her team was outshot 44-15.

Quesnel Marley was nearly as busy on Oct. 2, making 36 saves as the Wild were outshot 40-20. Amy, Karli Frederick, Lyttle and Mazur were the scorers for the Chiefs.

The Wild will play four games in a tournament in Morden this weekend before resuming league play against the Westman Wildcats in Flin Flon Oct. 15-16.
