Canadian women’s national racquetball champion Jennifer Saunders lost in the second round at the 2012 U.S. Open Racquetball Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Oct. 5, dropping a 9-11, 8-11, 5-11 decision to Maria Paz Munoz of Ecuador, leading in each of the first two games but unable to pull off a win.

The Thompson-raised Saunders, who was seeded eighth in the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour draw, opened the tournament by defeating Hailey Miller of the U.S.A. in the round of 32 on Oct. 4, prevailing 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 despite her back seizing up on her.

Saunders, who has won four straight national women’s singles racquetball championships and six overall, as well as the last two women’s doubles championships and eight overall, had her best-ever finish at the U.S. Open Racquetball Championships in 2011, making it to the quarterfinals for the first time.
