Thompson goaltender Justin Paulic ended up on the losing side of a 2-1 overtime loss for the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League preseason action on Set. 7 in Maple Creek, Sask. giving up the game-winner to Swift Current Broncos defenceman Richard Nedomlel with 29 seconds left in the extra frame.
Paulic made his regular-season debut for the Warriors last March 17, stopping 24 shots at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw to give the Warriors a 7-1 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders.
He started the Warriors' last two playoff games of 2012 as well, stopping 28 of 29 shots in his postseason debut to keep Moose Jaw - which trailed 3-0 in a best-of-seven series heading in - alive, and ending the eventual WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings' 22-game winning streak in the process. The Warriors' season ended in the next game, a 4-1 loss with Paulic stopping 20 of 24 shots.
Selected by the Warriors in the eighth round of the 2010 bantam draft, Paulic spent the past two seasons with the Thompson-based Norman Northstars of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League, appearing in 33 regular season games in the 2011-12 campaign, posting a record of 17-11-2 with one shutout, a 3.33 goal-against average and a .914 save percentage. He appeared in six playoff games, with a 2-4 record, a 4.71 GAA and an .887 save percentage.
Paulic was also a member of Manitoba's under-16 male hockey team, which represented the province at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was the only goaltender selected in the first round of the 2010 Manitoba Junior Hockey League bantam draft, taken fifth overall by the OCN Blizzard.
