Norway House RCMP are seeking the assistance of the public for information on the identity of a suspect believed to be involved in the abduction and sexual assault of an eight-year-old Winnipeg girl.
On Aug. 2 at about 5 p.m., the young girl was playing by the road in the Rossville area of Norway House, when she was picked up and driven to a secluded area on the Fort Island side of Norway House, where she was sexually assaulted, said Sgt. Line Karpish, an RCMP media relations spokesperson for "D" Division in Winnipeg.
The male suspect then dropped her off at her relative's residence about an hour later, and the police were contacted.
Police have obtained a sketch of the suspect, who is described as "aboriginal in appearance," Karpish said, and thin, with long hair and a pockmarked face.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a dirty, dark-coloured pick-up truck.
Norway House RCMP are asking for any members of the public who can assist in identifying the suspect or his vehicle to come forward an assist them.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Norway House RCMP detachment at (204)-359-6715 or for those who wish to remain anonymous, to contact Manitoba Crime Stoppers at: 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
