The Dark Knights, a team that included Ronald Perepeluk, Matt Gillis, Alex Ryan and Sunny Gandhi, were the winners of the 3-on-3 Hoopsfest basketball tournament played at the Thompson Regional Community Centre July 21-22, besting the other 11 teams to take the top prize.

"They won the $1,000 award," said Chris Sharpe, cultural co-ordinator with the City of Thompson's recreation department and one of the tournament organizers, as well as a participant. "They had a great time."

Twelve teams entered the tournament, including teams from Nelson House and Grand Rapids, which saw each team play six or seven games over the course of two days.

"The title Hoopsfest, it's not for no reason," said Sharpe, who hopes to organize more such tournaments in the future.
