Triple gold for Thompson's Kennedy at Manitoba Games

Thompson's Jack Kennedy, seen here at the Hershey Trakc Meet in Winnipeg in June, captured three gold medals, second-most on Team Norman, at the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Games in Swan River July 15-21.

Thompson athletes helped Team Norman finish fourth in the medal count at the 2012 Power Smart Manitoba Games in Swan River July 15-21, picking up 12 individual medals and helping to capture one other team medal.

Finishing first in three of his athletics events, Jack Kennedy of Thompson had the second-most goal medals of any Norman athlete, behind Lyle Marlow, who picked up six gold medals in swimming competition. Kennedy was first in the bantam male 100 metres, the bantam male 150 metres and the bantam male high jump.

Garret Szeremley picked up another of the Thompson competitors' gold medals, coming first in the bantam male standing long jump, while Michael Robinson was a member of Norman's gold medal-winning 4x50-metre mixed youth relay swim team.

Robinson also had the second-most individual medals of any Norman athletes, as he also picked up silver in the youth male 50-metre backstroke and bronze in the 50-metre butterfly, 100-metre backstroke, 100-metre individual medley and the youth male triathlon.

Thompson's Harley Horning was another silver medal winner, finishing second in the bantam male 80-metre hurdles, while Raylene Dysart got bronze in the midget female high jump and Vatineh Magaji earned bronze in the midget female 80-metre hurdles.

Team Norman finished fourth in the medal count with a total of 41, including 14 gold, nine silver and 18 bronze.

Kennedy was also fourth in the bantam male 800 metre and firth in the bantam male 1,200 metres, while Szeremley was fourth in the bantam male 100 metres, the bantam male 150 metres and the bantam male high jump and fifth in the bantam male ball throw.

Robinson's other top 10 finishes included fourth in the youth male 100 metre breaststroke and seventh in the youth male 50-metre freestyle.

Thompson athletes who didn't medal but finished in the top 10 included Karly Kraychuk (fifth in midget female 800 metres and ninth in midget female 300 metres), Megan Wischnewski (sixth in the bantam female 150 metres and eighth in the bantam female high jump), Matthew Rempel (sixth in the bantam male standing long jump, eighth in the bantam male long jump and ninth in the bantam male high jump), Kerri Allard (eighth in the bantam female standing long jump), Kerri-Ann Sweeny (ninth in the midget female 80-metre hurdles) and Mitchell Szabo (10th in the youth male 50-metre backstroke).

Thompson had 43 athletes on Team Norman, competing in athletics, swimming, triathlon, male and female soccer and female basketball.
