The Boston Pizza Reds stretched their cushion atop the Thompson senior men's baseball league with a pair of 4-2 wins in the league's only two games last week.
The Reds knocked off both the Bankside Bulls and the Matechuk Trucking Dropkick Murphys by identical scores and Reds player Todd Harwood was chosen as one of the players of the week for the second time this season, along with Dave Monan of the Dropkick Murphys.
The Reds now have a record of 9-2 while both the Bulls and the Dropkick Murphys are 4-6.
League organizer and Reds' namesake Red Sangster said it was a good week of baseball, marred only by an ankle injury suffered by one of the Dropkick Murphys as he slid into base, which luckily didn't prove to be serious.
"The diamond was in good shape, the weather was good," said Sangster.
The draw for next month's senior men's baseball provincials being played in Thompson Aug. 3-5 will soon be ready and the city continues getting the facilities in game shape.
"The city's working on the ball parks and we'll know this week what time the games are starting [for provincials]," said Sangster, who was hopeful the good weather would enable all of this week's three games to be played.
