The body of John Edward Sinclair was found by boaters June 20 near the shore of Split Lake in the area where he went missing on May 22.
Sinclair, 41, from York Landing, went missing while travelling back and forth from York Landing and Split Lake by boat on May 22.
Police received a report around 9:30 p.m. on May 22 of a missing boater on Split Lake near Tataskweyak Cree Nation after an empty boat was found running and going in circles in the area about an hour earlier. Sinclair had left Split Lake to return to York Landing at about 8:15 p.m. that day and witnesses reported that he was not wearing a personal flotation device.
Thompson Rural RCMP, the Thompson Police Service Dog team, Manitoba North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) members and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, as well as community members from York Landing and Split Lake, searched the lake over the weekend and the week after Sinclair went missing but did not locate him.
Foul play is not suspected. Police continue to investigate.
