After another successful year at the Knights of Columbus Indoor Games, we began to look for a track meet to take Thompson students to. We found the Hershey Track Meet June 15-16 at Grant Park High School in Winnipeg. The Hershey meet is promoted by the Hershey Candy Company and they hold regional competitions across North America. Winners of individual events may be selected to travel to the North American championships in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This track meet is open to 9- to 14-year-olds.

This year the Thompson athletes who competed were Matthew Rempel, Harley Horning, Kerri Allard, Garrett Szeremley, Kerri-Ann Sweeny, Carissa Kennedy and Jack Kennedy. Kerri Allard finished third in the province in the 200 metres and had a top-10 finish in the 100 metres, both events for the 2000-01 birth years. Kerri-Ann Sweeny finished in 12th for the 100 metres in the 1998-99 birth year category. Jack Kennedy finished in the 1600 metres and seventh in the 800 metres for the 1998-99 birth year. Matthew Rempel and Harley Horning had top-10 finishes in the 100 metres, 200 metres and long jump for the 2000-01 birth years. Garrett Szeremley competed well in the 100 metres, ball throw and long jump for the 1998-99 birth years. Finally, Carissa Kennedy finished seventh for the 50 metres in the 2002-03 birth year.

Overall our athletes competed very well. A big thank to the parents for taking the time to travel with their children. A thank you to the other coaches Val and Randy Wischnewski.
