A 31-year-old woman from Shamattawa was stabbed during a fight on Nickel Days weekend in front of the Thompson Liquor Mart at 131 Selkirk Ave. around 5:30 p.m., Cpl. Sean Grunewald said Monday.

Grunewald said, "Thompson RCMP responded to a report of two women fighting in front of the Liquor Mart in Thompson.

"RCMP attended and located one of the females, a 31-year-old resident of Shamattawa, suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to the Thompson General Hospital where she was treated and released the following day."

Margaret Anne Beardy, 44, of Split Lake, was arrested at the scene, Grunewald said, and has since been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, carrying a concealed weapon and theft under 5,000.

MLCC had private security working both inside and outside the Thompson Liquor Mart Saturday afternoon and veteran store manager Larry Caplette was also working Saturday afternoon.

Beardy was remanded into custody by a justice of the peace for a provincial court appearance June 25.

Thompson RCMP are asking for anyone who has information regarding this incident to contact the Thompson detachment at (204) 677-6909.
