Thirty-six runners and walkers from Thompson were in Winnipeg on Father's Day for the various events of the annual Manitoba Marathon, along with more than 13,000 other people.
Four Thompson residents completed the full marathon, a distance of 42.195 kilometres, with the fastest time turned in by 49th-place finisher Eduard Sieber, who covered the course in 3:13:56.3, about 25 minutes ahead of Amy Portey, who crossed the line at 3:38:30.2 to finish 127th, five places ahead of Hash Pereira, who was 132 with a time of 3:39:54.8. Thompson's other entrant was Craig Finally, who was 202nd overall with a time of 3:48:54.1.
The Nickel City was also represented in the marathon relay by the Your Pace or Mine? team, which completed the race in 4:25:08.9, 286th among the 404 registered teams.
Thompson's largest contingent of racers – 17 in all – competed in the half-marathon, with Don Wood (1:36:16.1), Allison Zimmerman (1:50:02.9), Emily Pruder (1:53:49.1), Randy McKay (1:54:11.8), Nicole Lafreniere (1:58:32.8) and Jordan McKay (1:59:26.0) crossing the line under the two-hour mark. Other half-marathoners from Thompson were Karen Beaupre, Raymond Beaupre, Gwenn Bodie, Jon Boychuk, Krystle Boychuk, Dennis Fenske, Alicia French, Laurel Nychyporuk, Ana Pereira, Melissa Pham and Vuong Pham.
Eight racers ran or walked in the 10-kilometre race, with Evan Lutz (55:36.0), Willam Lutz (56:04.3) and Alissa Leforte (58:47.3) completing the course in less than an hour, with Marion Boychuk, Jo-Anne Lutz, Harold MacDonald, Ronald Perepeluk and Cristina Zelaya also crossing the finish line.
Five Thompson racers completed the 2.6 mile Super Run, including Jacquie Dram, Dylan Mulholland, Amy Shier, Dean Shier and Jenna Shier.
