Athletes from '72 Memorial High School in Oxford House posted three top-10 finishes at the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association track and field provincials in Selkirk June 7-9.
Larissa Stinson had the top two results for her school, finishing fourth in the junior varsity girls' javelin throw with a distance of 27.74 metres and was fifth in the junior varsity girls' discus throw, recording a distance of 24.10 metres.
Stinson's schoolmate, Kirk Robinson, placed ninth in the junior varsity boys' 3,000-metre run, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:15.76. In the same race, Colin McKay of Otter Nelson River School in Cross Lake placed 25th with a time of 11:40.51. Robinson was also 16th in the junior varsity boys' 1,500-metre run, while McKay came 31st in the same event.
Other Northern Manitoba athletes and teams who made the finals in their respective events at track provincials included the junior varsity boys' distance medley team from Otter Nelson River, which finished 25th with a time of 4:46.24
Kade Korchinski from Joseph H. Kerr School in Snow Lake competed in the junior varsity boys' tetrathlon, finishing 11th in the shot put, 17th in the long jump20th in the 100-metre dash and 24th in the 800-metre run.
Cheyanne Caribou from Sakastew School in Pukatwagan was 30th in the varsity girls' 1,500-metre run.
