Vincent Shane Harper of Garden Hill medevaced via Lifeflight Air Ambulance after assault

A 28-year-old Garden Hill First Nation man was hospitalized in critical condition on June 2 after being assaulted.

Vincent Shane Harper of Garden Hill was flown to Winnipeg via Lifeflight Air Ambulance on June 2 after Island Lake RCMP responded to a report of a badly injured male who had been brought to the Garden Hill Nursing Station.

RCMP investigators attended the nursing station and were able to determine that the male had been injured as a result of being assaulted.

On June 12, RCMP charged 21-year old Jon Preston Hastings, a resident of Garden Hill First Nation with Aggravated Assault in relation to the assault.

Hastings is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 13 in Winnipeg; the victim and the accused are known to each other.

Police continue to investigate.
