Jennifer Saunders continues to rule the roost when it comes to women's racquetball in Canada.

Saunders, who took up the sport in Thompson before leaving the city to attend university, defeated Frederique Lambert 15-11, 1-15, 11-7 in the women's singles final to capture her sixth national women's singles championship overall and the fourth in the past four years.

The 2009 Manitoba female athlete of the year was also the champion in women's doubles, teaming up with partner Josée Grand'Maître of Longueuil, Quebec to defeat Lambert and Brandi Jacobson Prentice of Vaudreuil, Quebec 16-14, 15-10 in the final. The title is Saunders's eighth national women's doubles championship in the last 10 years, second in a row and third in the last four years.

This year marks the fourth time overall and third in the last four years that Saunders has won both singles and doubles national titles. She also accomplished that feat in 2005, 2009 and 2011.

In addition to the women's title, Saunders and partner Wade Shadlock of Brandon went 4-1 to finish first overall in the mixed doubles open division, a straight round-robin tournament. It's the first time a player has won all three open categories.

The four straight national singles titles for Saunders are the most for a Canadian woman since Heather Strupp won six straight in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
