MVP's hat trick leads T-1 to Steelworkers tournament title

Tim Velemirovich had three goals for the T-1 Timberdogs as they outscored the Smelter Rats 6-3 to win the championship of the United Steelworkers Local 6166 hockey tournament on April 14.

The T-1 Timberdogs got four goals in the third period to break open a 2-2 ties and defeat the Smelter Rats 6-2 in the final of the United Steelworkers Local 6166 hockey tournament April 14 at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.

Tim Velemirovich had three goals for T-1 in the final, one in each period, including the Timberdogs' only tallies of the first 40 minutes, and was awarded the tournament MVP award at the conclusion of the game.

Bob Farkas had a pair - including the game-winner - both in the third period and two-time tournament MVP Alex Head had the final goal of the game.

Luke Rae, in the first period, and Jeff Brightnose, in the second, had the goals for the Smelter Rats, who lost 6-3 to T-1 in last year's tournament final.

Birchtree defeated the Refinery Rash 8-3 in the previous game to capture third place overall, building up a 4-1 lead over the first 40 minutes and then outscoring their opponents 4-2 in the final frame.

Refinery Heat beat Shops 4-2 in one of the consolation games, while the other saw the Refinery Bullies wallop the T-1 Oilers 12-1.
