QUESTION OF THE WEEK

  • Forest fires are a fact of life in Northern Manitoba, although the number and severity vary year to year. How prepared do you feel you are to evacuate quickly if the need arose under a disaster management plan scenario?
  • Poorly prepared. I’d be running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I know better but I’m complacent

Cross Lake RCMP responded to a disturbance and reports of gun fire on April 10 outside of a Saggitawak area residence, shortly after 1 a.m.

Investigation revealed that the suspect had also pointed a firearm at two local residents.

A 17-year-old male from Cross Lake was located and arrested shortly after 4:00 am in connection with the first report and subsequent incidents.

The youth is facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent, careless use of a Firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, two counts of pointing a firearm, as well as several counts of failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking as well as the conditions of a probation order.

The suspect remains in custody, and under the Youth Justice Criminal Act, his name has not been released.

He was scheduled to appear in Thompson youth court April 12.
