Twelve competitors from the Thompson (Midwest) Karate Club, along with their coaches Peter de Beer and Kristal Baron, travelled to The Pas to compete in the JKA Canada Manitoba Provincial tournament on March 24. Under JKA Canada tournament rules, the top four athletes in each category qualify for JKA Canada Nationals which will be held in Winnipeg on May 26 at St. Boniface College. At least eight members of the Thompson team have qualified for the national tournament.

The team brought home 14 medals in the following disciplines; team kata (patterns), individual kata and kumite (sparring).
