Gillam RCMP were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive male outside a residence in Ilford on April 8 just after 5 a.m.
A 29-year-old man, who was a resident of York Landing, was transported to the community nursing station where he was pronounced dead.
The death is being investigated as a homicide. The dead man's name is not being released at this time.
Gillam RCMP continue to investigate., with the assistance of RCMP North district, as well as the RCMP major crimes services and RCMP forensic identification services.
Ilford is a Northern Affairs community of about 140 residents with a mayor and council coming under the jurisdiction the Northern Affairs Act and Manitoba's Department of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs. As well, the War Lake First Nation, whose band has about 240 members, and is located on the Mooseocoot Reserve at Ilford.
Historically a marshalling point along the Bayline, as well as rail, Ilford is also served by air and is 144 kilometres northeast of Thompson.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Winnipeg.
RCMP have not released any further information at this time.
