I am writing this letter to say how disgusted I am in regards to the process of having the water meters installed in our homes. My husband and I live in a trailer and received the notice, as did everyone else.
An appointment was made and to our dismay, nobody showed up. The following day I proceeded to call the meter company and inform them of what occurred and was informed that someone had come on July 22 to install the meter. I explained that nobody had come to the door that day and if it had occurred during the day nobody was home. My husband went under the trailer and saw that the meter was there and I followed up with another phone call. I spoke with the company and was informed that the City of Thompson had given them permission to complete the meter installation in the trailers without consent from the residents. The company said that because there is no need to go inside the trailer, the city said it was OK to complete the installation. Does this not sound like trespassing?
My husband and I own the property and these people came while nobody was home and made alterations to our home. I proceeded to make a phone call to the mayor and was informed he was away. I spoke with someone overseeing his position while he is on holidays and informed him of my ultimate disgust. He proceeded to inform me that the water meter company was supposed to knock on doors and only install the meters if someone was home. Obviously this was not happening.
I am not sure who is telling the truth here nor do I care, all I can say is how violated and offended I am by this treatment. Just because we live in the trailer court does not mean that we do not deserve the same respect as everyone else. I am totally disgraced and disgusted at how this thing has been handled. I am ashamed to be living in a city that has taken away equal rights for all citizens.
Signed, one very disgusted citizen.
