To the Editor:
I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Thompson for directing its energies toward helping A Port in the Storm. Rotary recently donated the $10,000 it raised at its annual Hole-in-One Tournament. The event is fun for participants, but it requires a great deal of time and effort from the Rotarians. The person-hours of volunteerism are tremendous. I should point out that this donation came on the heels of an earlier donation of $5,000 from Rotary.
A Port in the Storm is certainly the largest fund-raising project in which I’ve been involved; and I’m constantly humbled when I see the businesses, organizations and individuals who step up to support. New businesses, such as Jelly Bean Junction and established businesses, such as PreCambrian Art Centre, are all willing to find their unique way to support this cause.
Some businesses, such as the Thompson Citizen, have donated so much in in-kind services to help make everyone aware of this project, that a simple thank-you will never be enough. But I know that one day, when the facility is built, there will be a wall or plaque or other venue of recognition, and generations of people will know that their comfort was the result of many willing people.
In the meantime, even though I have not mentioned everyone who has stepped forward, I want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have helped; and to thank, in advance, those who still have plans to help.
